David Street Station is thrilled to announce the appointment of Whitney Asay as its new Executive Director, effective May 13, 2024. Whitney brings a wealth of experience and a passion for community engagement that will undoubtedly drive the Station’s mission forward.

Whitney is a Casper native with a dynamic background and skillset as a small business owner. Her visionary leadership and commitment to fostering a vibrant community align seamlessly with David Street Station’s mission to be #WhereCasperComesTogether

In Whitney, David Street Station has found a leader who is dedicated to enhancing the Station’s impact and ensuring its continued success as a hub for community events and gatherings. Whitney is eager to collaborate with stakeholders, volunteers, and community members to expand programming, cultivate partnerships, and create memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.

“I am honored to join the David Street Station team and serve as Executive Director,” said Asay. “I am deeply committed to building upon the Station’s legacy of bringing people together and fostering a sense of community pride. Together, we will work to ensure David Street Station remains a vibrant destination for decades to come.”

Whitney Asay takes over as the first Executive Director of David Street Station under its new classification as a 501(c)(3) Non-profit. She succeeds Kevin Hawley, who helped dream, build, and oversee operations associated with David Street Station over the last ten years in his role as Executive Director of the Casper Downtown Development Authority.

Please join us in welcoming Whitney Asay to the David Street Station family. She can be reached at Whitney@davidstreetstation.com for inquiries or further information.

About David Street Station:

David Street Station began as a vision of the Casper Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to bring the community together while also acting as a catalyst to spur economic investment and redevelopment in downtown Casper. The idea germinated in 2014 with support from the City of Casper allocating $3 million of 1 cent funds to this public project. It was strengthened with the support of the State of Wyoming and the Wyoming Business Council investing $1 million utilizing Community Enhancement Grants. The remaining $6 million needed for total project costs came from the private sector in the form of philanthropic support from over 1,000 community members. While the project often seemed an impossible undertaking, as the late Casper personality and ardent David Street Station supporter Brian Scott Gamroth said, “Casper always finds a way.” His community did not disappoint. Phase I of David Street Station opened in August 2017 just days before the Total Solar Eclipse. Phase II, including the splash pad and ice-skating rink, opened the following year in June 2018.

In addition to the capital campaign, each year, David Street Station privately raises, through operations, donations, grants, and sponsorships, all funds needed ($750,000) to operate and maintain this free community space. This is no small task. Contrary to popular belief, the City of Casper does not operate or pay for David Street Station, even when it was under the operational management of the Casper DDA. With the creation of the new 501(c)(3), we hope to communicate that more effectively, as well as increase community outreach efforts for general support, including fundraising, grants, and sponsorship.

Many hands make light work – if you would like to participate in supporting and strengthening David Street Station in this new and exciting chapter, helping to ensure its success for decades to come, please consider reaching out. David Street Station is only as strong as the community that supports it, and it does need your help!
